The foundation of the first layer

The foundation of the first layer

In the long-term practice, FLSUN has accumulated rich experience and resources, laying a solid foundation for the manufacture of high-quality 3D printers.

As the basis of the entire 3D printing, the first layer is a very important part. Even experienced 3D printer enthusiasts know how challenging it is to print the first layer correctly. One of the most common reasons for the first layer is not sticking to the printing bed. Improving the adhesion of the surface can greatly increase the success rate of printing, and it is also the beginning of fine prints. Here, I will share a few simple methods to ensure that the print can be glued to the bed every time to get the perfect first layer.

  Auto leveling

An uneven hot bed is usually the culprit for non-stick printing. This problem occurs when the distance between the nozzles on the hot bed and the entire print bed is inconsistent. If the build platform is not flat and level, the nozzle will be too close in some places and too far in others. Even if the build platform is completely horizontal, it may still be set too far or too close to the nozzle.

FLSUN printers all have automatic bed leveling sensors This link for more information on Auto leveling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWVXsSech8c

Slow down the first layer. If the first layer moves too fast, it will be easy to stick the prints to the heat bed. Slowing down the print speed will allow the extruded consumables to adhere better to the print bed.

Check the temperature. If the first layer sticks but later separates from the print bed, the likely cause is the temperature setting. In many cases, the tool head extrudes filament at the optimal temperature, but the platform is not warm enough. Increasing the hot bed temperature will also improve the adhesion of the hot bed. Also, check the filament you are using. Filaments usually come with the manufacturer's recommended extruder and bed temperature range.

If following the steps above does not solve your first layer problem, cleaning the build surface may help. Sometimes the first layer will flake off the build surface because it is dusty, greasy or oily. Be sure to wipe the surface of your hot bed with alcohol weekly to remove contaminants.

Of course, some special consumables cannot get onto the hot bed, and 3D printing enthusiasts will also apply a little glue stick or other glue with adhesion.
